R.M. Chin’s AA team is reaching new heights! December 2018 marked the opening of the new American Airlines (AA) Hangar 2 and Ground Service Equipment (GSE) facility. The 191,000 square foot hangar can accommodate six narrow-body aircraft or two wide-body aircraft plus one narrow-body aircraft simultaneously – making it the largest hangar at O’Hare International Airport and the longest dual threshold hangar in the world.

The expanded space allows for more workload capacity and aircraft parking flexibility, as well as provides AA’s aircraft maintenance technicians with high-tech features and updated workspaces. With over 20,000 linear feet of underground utilities, Hangar 2 provides point-of-use aircraft services for safer, more effective and timesaving operations.

Additionally, the GSE facility is where vehicles and equipment used on the airfield including aircraft tugs, deicing trucks, and baggage carts are maintained. Both facilities use green technology including LED lighting and natural daylight to reduce energy demands and meet the goals of the Sustainable Airport Manual requirements.

R.M. Chin provided program and project management for this $200 million program with American Airlines.
