This is not a drill! Now that the I-74 Mississippi River Bridge project is in the construction phase, workers are indeed drilling shafts for the foundational system of the new basket handle twin arch bridge, located just East of the existing suspension bridge. Once the foundation work for the new Westbound Arch is complete, crews will then begin to build the Westbound Arch structure in late summer of 2018 followed by the Eastbound substructure work in 2019.
Eileen Chin, President of R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (R.M. Chin), was onsite the week of November 13th to meet up with the firm’s Iowa team and witness the shaft drilling. “I’m always proud to see my team’s work firsthand. Remarkable progress has been made and R.M. Chin’s Mike Levar and David Mallery are in the thick of it, making sure all project components remain on schedule,” said R.M. Chin President Eileen Chin. “Thanks to the Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation for this opportunity.”
