R.M. Chin’s Dave Mallery serves as a Project Scheduler and Controls Assistant for Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) contract for the I-74 Mainline Bridge Replacement Project within the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities.

This past month, Dave gave a tour to several John Deere Quality and Process Engineers from the East Moline John Deere Plant. The tour included seeing parts of the bridge up close, understanding how the different parts work together, and explaining his responsibilities.

The group pictures were taken from the new WB mainline on the Iowa side of the project. The green towers located in the back are temporarily required to hold the arch components in place until the final arch piece has been set. The other pictures feature the first arch rib components being put in place, including the MLC650 Manitowoc’s flagship crawler crane which is the largest on the project. It has a lifting capacity of 716 tons with a boom length of 341 feet!

There has been plenty of great work accomplished as the I-74 River Bridges continues to take shape – from expanding the interstate with new lanes, to constructing new overpasses and ramps, to building the basket-handle arch, R.M. Chin is proud to be providing project/construction management, project controls, and scheduling support for this project.
