O’Hare Airport Transit System
R.M. Chin is part of the O’Hare Airport Transit System (OATS), a joint venture which maintains and oversees the operations of the light-rail system at O’Hare International Airport. Our firm is providing project management and construction management services, including Information Technology services and support for the Control Center Computer System (CCCS). R.M. Chin also monitors OATS remote facilities, the maintenance facility, and the power outage systems.
The Airport Transit System (ATS) is a fully-automated landside people mover which transports passengers between Terminals 1, 2, 3, International Terminal 5, and Long-term Parking Lot “E” under a 24/7, 365-day-a-year operation schedule. Since being awarded the Operations and Maintenance contract in 1994, we have transported more than 250,000,000 travelers and airport employees with an average system availability of over 99.8%.
R.M. Chin is supporting construction management and design-build efforts for the expansion of the system and related facilities, which will include:
- the replacement of the 15 driverless trains with a new fleet of 36 Bombardier INNOVIA APM 256 trains with new “City Flow” technology
- the addition of a new Lot “F” station to accommodate public parking as well as rental car facility parking
- the addition of 2,000 LF of Guideway to Parking Lot “F”
- the expansion of the maintenance storage facility
