The modernization of the O’Hare Airport Transit System (OATS) in underway! Last week, R.M. Chin’s Becky Thurwanger joined R.M. Chin’s General Manager of Facilities, Construction and Training Joe Dote to check out the progress of the new and improved fully-automated people mover which transports passengers between Terminals 1, 2, 3, International Terminal 5, and long-term parking lots.

The OATS modernization involves upgraded technology and the replacement of the existing 15 vehicle fleet with 36 new rail cars with automated vehicle control, traction power, and communication improvements. This will double the capacity of the system, providing passengers a faster more streamlined connection throughout the airport.

R.M. Chin is providing project management and construction management services, including information technology services and support for the Control Center Computer System (CCCS). The new rail system is scheduled to be completed by fall 2019.
