Chicago Department of Aviation Midway Modernization Project

R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) provided resident engineering services, project management, and construction management for various facets of the Chicago Department of Aviation’s (CDA) Midway Modernization Program. The $323 million undertaking included improvements to Midway’s security checkpoint and concessions area, as well as construction of a new pedestrian bridge.

Checkpoint Project

Provided resident engineering services on a new $104 million security checkpoint, which involved an expansion of the pedestrian bridge. The improvements provide a streamlined, single checkpoint area that is seven times wider than the previous security hall. New technology for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening capacity was also installed to increase efficiency for passengers.

This development, combined with new TSA automated lanes, increases the hourly throughput from 2,500 to 5,000 passengers per hour—doubling the previous capacity.

Concessions Program

Over a three-year period, CHIN provided project management, construction management, and resident engineering services for a multi-phased, $80 million program to renovate the interior retail and restaurant services located inside Midway’s terminals. The makeover covers more than 70 newly-built food and shopping locations.
