American Airlines Hangar II Replacement
American Airlines Hangar II Replacement
R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) provided Project/Program Management services for the relocation of the existing American Airlines (AA) Hangar II replacement at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The scope of work included the construction of a new hangar (Hangar II) adjacent to the existing AA Hangar I and the relocation of the current building user groups for the development to develop Runway 9C.

Hangar Features
The new 194,000 SF facility is supported by 7,000 tons of steel, making it the longest-span, dual-entry hangar in the world. The state-of-the-art facility spans over 480 feet and houses two wide-body or six narrow-body aircraft. The $130M project includes 27 underground utility pits, aircraft GPUs, employee support space, and a new routing office.
Project Role and Expectations
CHIN was selected in the concept stages of the facility to identify various aircraft parking schemes to ultimately provide the most flexibility of AA’s current aircraft fleet, as well as those currently under development by Boeing and Airbus. Upon selecting the scheme, CHIN assisted with the A/E selection and developed the initial project budget and space programming for presentation to AA leadership.
