American Airlines Phase 2 L Stinger 3 Gate Expansion

R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) served as Program Manager for American Airlines during the construction of a new L Concourse Stinger at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The Chicago Department of Aviation’s $55 million investment in expanding the L Concourse Stinger is a continuous effort towards ORD’s major $8.5 billion terminal expansion plan.

Project Scope

This 17,000-SF L Concourse 3 gate expansion serves as a “common use” flexible gate for a regional fleet mix of domestic and precleared international fights.
New passenger boarding bridges for additional gates, as well as hold rooms, gate agent support spaces, toilet rooms, mother’s room, service animal relief area, ready rooms, and additional ramp support spaces, are all included in this project scope. The new L Concourse 3 gate expansion also provides new aircraft pavement and taxiway to serve the facility.

Agency Coordination

CHIN oversaw Concourse construction, an expansion to the north of the existing facility and around an existing communication building that serves the airport. The firm provided extensive coordination between American Airlines and other airlines, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), and TSA due to the proximity of the work site to active taxiways and agency operations.
