American Airlines Terminal 8 Expansion

R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) provided program management services for the American Airlines (AA) Terminal 8 Expansion Project at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport. CHIN’s team worked alongside AA and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) to modify and create two new gates and upgrade three other gates while also expanding the Terminal 8 footprint in two different locations. This project was a critical early component of the $13 billion JFK Redevelopment Program, allowing British Airways and Iberia to collocate at Terminal 8 with American Airlines.

Concourse C Gate Upgrades

The project consisted of the modification of existing regional and narrow-body gates to add three new wide-body gates. Enhancements at the new gates include new fixed bridges, refurbished passenger boarding bridges, fuel pit relocations, utilities and pavement modifications, new ground power and pre-conditioned air units, hardstand and gate striping, and new visual docking guidance systems.

Terminal Bump Outs

Two separate terminal bump-outs were also included in the project:
» A 60’ bump-out which includes a new hold room and boarding structures for Gates 18 and 20, a solar roof, refresh and expansion of existing restrooms, and relocated passenger boarding bridges
» A 30’ bump-out highlighted by an expanded Baggage Handling System completed in three phases. The expansion also includes a new green roof, egress pathway, new International Claims device, new restroom, and substation
» Shell spaces were also created for a new Lounge and Tenant office support spaces
