R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) provided construction and project management services for the new Bronzeville Health Center, a vital addition to Cook County Health’s Ambulatory Care Health Network. The 26,000-square-foot facility is expected to serve more than 85,000 patient visits annually.
This project earned an Achievement award from the National Association of Counties.
This two-story building is located in the historic Lake Meadows area of Chicago. The design intent is to provide a modern, comfortable, safe, and convenient setting for the physical and mental health needs of the community.
The Challenge
The challenge of this project was to program the 26,000-sf space to accommodate the existing patient volume coming from Provident Hospital, as well as new patients from the surrounding areas.
Therefore, the space planning team was charged with maximizing the number of exam rooms and consult rooms. The number of patients at Provident Hospital has increased exponentially. The need for more space to accommodate patients came to a critical point. Thus, this build-out needed to be completed in a short span of time. Thus, the Contractor had to perform off-hours and weekend work to meet the schedule.

Execution & Oversight
CHIN provided full-service oversight during design and construction. Staff managed stakeholders’ expectations of functional space programming and all activities during construction, including, but not limited to, demolition, safety, design compliance, permitting, RFIs, change orders, Capital expenditures, executive approvals, pay applications, and closeout documents.
