Amtrak Chicago Union Station Operations and Station Integration Plan
Amtrak Chicago Union Station Operations and Station Integration Plan
R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) led LiDAR data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and report production for Chicago Union Station’s (CUS) Operations and Station Integration Plan (OSIP). OSIP is a railroad simulation and conceptual design study of the Midwest intercity passenger rail network in the Chicago West Loop Gate neighborhood.

Station and Network Mapping
As part of this effort, the CHIN team designed a regional passenger rail service map and schematic of the commuter and passenger rail network. Using LiDAR scans of the station, the team created 3D CADD linework of platforms and tracks and 3D models of columns and beams. This was to update the station’s base map and support future conceptual design development.
Stakeholder Engagement
In addition to content and materials development, CHIN supported the project team in maintaining a list of key primary points of contact at relevant Amtrak departments, FRA, IDOT, and other agencies, including Metra and Chicago DOT. The CHIN team also assisted in coordination activities with stakeholders while maintaining a library of project deliverables on the project’s SharePoint site.
