CCDoTH Plainfield Road Phase I Corridor Study

R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (CHIN) serves as a subconsultant to the project manager for the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways’ (DoTH) Plainfield Road Phase I Corridor Study. This study encompasses the 3.5-mile stretch of Plainfield Road from County Line Road in Burr Ridge to East Avenue in McCook, analyzing existing roadways and intersections along the route to identify development opportunities for environmental and community improvements. These proposed improvements include addressing the existing roadway and drainage deficiencies, enhancing pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, and improving safety and mobility for all users. A vital component of this study is to incorporate the goals and priorities of key stakeholders and the general public and build upon existing plans and adjacent projects.

Virtual Meetings

CHIN’s responsibilities include overseeing virtual meetings, where participants could ask questions and collaborate with the project team, comparable to traditional Cook County DOTH in-person meetings. Virtual one-on-one sessions with each municipality will allow residents to discuss their concerns, issues, and goals for the corridor. CHIN also advised developing the projects Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC).

Outreach Oppurtunities

The CHIN team developed on-demand outreach opportunities for community feedback and early participation in the project to maximize community participation. On-demand outreach techniques ensure that those unable to attend meetings or communicate with the project team during business hours can share their feedback and enable a constant feedback and engagement loop with the project team; techniques include a dedicated project website and a web-based interactive mapping survey. The interactive mapping survey enabled the community to provide feedback on the existing conditions review, a component of Phase I studies that does not typically include public input. This feedback highlighted the areas where the adjacent community was concerned and would like to see prioritized in the development of alternatives. The survey feedback was incorporated into the design of proposed options for consideration and shared with the public during the first public meeting.
